Weather Underground midday recap for Saturday, July 05, 2008. A front extended from the Mid-Atlantic through the Plains and allowed deep moisture to pool to its south. This moisture produced somewhat widespread showers and thunderstorms from the Mid-Atlantic coast through the Southeast. Some of these thunderstorms produced damaging hail and strong winds.

In the Plains, a line of strong thunderstorms moved through eastern Nebraska and Kansas before weakening in the afternoon.

Moist flow off the Gulf of Mexico enabled showers and thunderstorms to develop through southern Texas.

Meanwhile, a low pressure system streaked through Montana and instigated areas of showers that lasted into the afternoon.

The West Coast states remained dry, but a Pacific front was set to slam into the Northwest coast later in the day and usher some precipitation in the region.

The Northeast rose into the 70s and 80s, while the Southeast saw temperatures in the 80s and 90s. The Plains rose into the 80s and 90s, while the Southwest saw temperatures into the 90s and 100s. The Northwest rose into the 70s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Saturday have ranged from a morning low of 35 degrees at Truckee, Calif. to a midday high of 105 degrees at Needles, Calif.
